Frequently Asked Questions

Can the same hardware be used on both balconies and staircases?

Yes - the components are shared, but the mounting differs. On a balcony the spigots fix to a flat floor deck; on a stair the spigot base sits on the step or stringer, so a base plate or stair-side bracket is used, and the glass is cut to the stair rake at the top edge. Send the stair rise/run and we list which brackets swap in for the stair sections.

How is the frameless glass held on an angled staircase flight?

Each step or every other step carries a base spigot, and the top edge of the glass is fixed to the handrail with a clamp - the top rail is the key stabilizer on stairs. The glass is usually cut parallel to the stair pitch at the top and stepped at the bottom. No post interrupts the line, so the rail runs continuously; clamp positions are pre-marked on the rail at the factory.

What glass thickness do you recommend for stair glazing?

For staircase balustrade glass, 10-12 mm toughened is the common residential spec, and we supply the spigot and clamp gaskets to match. If the stair has a mezzanine drop or commercial traffic, laminated glass (10.76 or 12.76 mm) is the safer call - it stays intact if cracked - and the hardware accepts it with the wider gasket set. Tell us the fall height and we advise.

Do I need a handrail on a frameless stair glass system?

On a staircase, yes - codes typically require a grab rail on at least one side, and the frameless system works best with a top rail because it clamps the glass at the top edge and stops panel sway. A wall-mounted rail can substitute on the wall side, but the open side needs the rail over the glass. Our clamps are made to carry that rail directly.

How precise does the stair or floor surface need to be for spigots?

The spigot base has a levelling feature - a shim or adjustable foot under the base plate - so it takes up the pitch and slight slope of a concrete step or deck. We supply the anchor plan with the levelling allowance; the installer sets the spigots plumb before the glass goes in. That tolerance is why the system works on existing stairs without grinding the steps.

What is the lead time for a combined balcony plus stair order?

The whole order runs together in 15-25 days - spigots, clamps, rail and brackets - and we pre-cut the rail to your stair layout if you send the drawing. Samples are 1 pc, standard orders 50 pcs per item, OEM/logo at 500 pcs. Because balcony and stair sections share finishes, we batch them in one production run so nothing mismatches on site.
