Yes - it joins handrail tubes on glass railing top rail runs, where the rail sits above the glass on clamps or posts. The connector matches the 42.4 and 50 mm tube we use for top rails, and the profile keeps the top surface flat and grippable, so the joint does not create a bump under a hand. It is the same family as the clamps that hold the rail above the glass.

It is a load-through fitting - the tube carries the hand load and the connector keeps the joint aligned so the run behaves as one continuous rail. Because the rail is continuously supported by clamps along its length, the joint is not the weak point it would be on a post-supported span. For post-supported top rails we keep joints away from mid-span and place them near a clamp or post.

On the internal spigot version, no - the fasteners are inside the tube. Where a serviceable joint is needed we locate the grub screws on the underside of the rail, which is out of sight from normal viewing height. Say which you want; both keep the top surface clean.
