Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I choose brass over stainless steel for a shower hinge?
Brass machines cleanly, so the hinge bodies come out with crisp edges and tight tolerances, and it holds detail better for traditional and vintage-style bathrooms. The trade-off is corrosion: raw brass tarnishes in steam. We put a protective coating over it, but it still needs more care than stainless. For a bathroom that is wet all the time, SUS304 is the lower-maintenance choice.
Will the brass finish turn green or tarnish in a shower?
Solid brass in a wet shower will tarnish over time if left bare. To prevent that, our brass hinges are sealed and coated before shipping, so the body is not exposed to steam while the coating is intact. Wipe the hinge down after use and avoid acid cleaners; with basic care the finish holds. If you prefer zero maintenance, ask for the same hinge in SUS316 instead.
How heavy a glass door can this hinge support?
This is the heavy-duty version of our glass-to-glass hinge, sized for frameless shower doors and bathroom glass panels. It is designed for typical frameless doors - 8-12mm tempered glass in standard panel sizes up to a full-size shower door. For extra-large or extra-heavy panels, send the glass dimensions and weight and we will confirm whether this model or a reinforced option is right.
What glass thickness does the brass version take?
Same as the rest of the frameless range: 8-12mm tempered glass. The two clamp leaves grip the glass with rubber gaskets and the through-bolts are torqued evenly, so there is no stress point on the glass edge. Remember the glass must be drilled before tempering - we supply the hole pattern so your glazier can machine it correctly.
Which finishes are available on this brass hinge?
We run it in Brushed Bronze, brushed nickel, chrome, gun gray, and custom colors. On brass bodies, brushed bronze and gun gray give a rich, warm tone that suits frameless showers. Custom colors such as matte black or a gold tone are possible on OEM orders of 500 pieces and up. If the project needs everything matched, send samples of your other fittings and we will match the tone.
Is this hinge available for both glass-to-glass and wall-to-glass mounting?
This listing is the glass-to-glass version: one leaf clamps the fixed glass panel, the other clamps the door. We also make wall-to-glass and pivot versions of the same heavy-duty brass line. If your shower has a solid wall on one side, tell us which side the door is on and we will recommend the right leaf configuration so the door opens the way you need.
