Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is adjustable on an adjustable spider fitting?

The arms can be set to different positions and angles before tightening, which lets you compensate for small deviations in the subframe and bring all glass corners to a common plane. That is useful on large facades where the steelwork is never perfectly true.

Is the whole fitting made in 316, or just some parts?

The complete fitting — body, arms, bolts, and sockets — is manufactured from stainless steel 316, so there are no mixed grades to fail in a corrosive environment. This is our recommended spider where the facade faces coastal weather or industrial pollution.

What glass thickness does it suit?

It suits the tempered glass range used in point-fixed facades. Confirm your glass thickness and hole diameter when ordering and we will match the socket and gasket. For laminated or insulated panels, send the build-up so we size the fittings correctly.

Where would you use an adjustable spider instead of a fixed one?

Use the adjustable version on retrofit facades, curved or raked glass, and any project where the subframe alignment cannot be guaranteed. On a clean, brand-new steel frame a fixed spider installs faster — but the adjustable one saves a lot of shimming on real sites.

How does the spider attach to the structure?

The center body bolts to a steel subframe or transom behind the facade, and each arm carries a bolt through the glass corner hole with a socket and gasket. All fixings are included; the subframe must be structural and set to the positions on our template.
