Frequently Asked Questions

Where is a 4-arm spider fitting used?

The 4-arm spider carries glass at its four corner points, which is the typical pattern for glass facades and curtain walls on commercial buildings, office entrances, and atriums. Four point fixings per panel give a stable, level pane with a clean frameless look.

What glass thickness does the spider accept?

It is built for curtain wall glass in the point-fixing range — typically the thicker tempered panels used in facades. Confirm your glass thickness and hole size when ordering and we will supply the correct bolts and sockets. Laminated or insulated units need the build-up detail.

You mention duplex 2205 — when would I choose that over 316?

Duplex 2205 has roughly double the yield strength of 304/316 and much better pitting resistance, so it is specified for heavy structural facades and harsh coastal or industrial environments. 316 is the standard for most commercial facades; go 2205 when the engineer's calc or the site demands it.

How much weight can one spider take?

The arm and bolt pattern is sized for typical facade panels, but the real number depends on panel dimensions, glass thickness, and the fixing count. We quote the fitting's own spec and let your structural engineer confirm the assembly for the actual project load.

How is the spider fixed to the structure and the glass?

The spider bolts to a steel subframe or transom behind the facade, and each arm picks up a drilled hole in the glass corner with a bolt and socket through the pane. Glass holes must be drilled before tempering; we supply the socket and gasket set with the fitting.

What finishes are available for a curtain wall job?

Brushed nickel, chrome, matte black, and custom colors, with dark finishes done in PVD for outdoor durability. On large facade projects we recommend confirming the finish with a sample panel first so the spider matches the frame and other metalwork.
