The channel carries the glass infill panels; the structural fall protection comes from the whole assembly - glass, fixings and substrate. What the channel adds is a continuous support line along the bottom edge, so panels do not rock or flex at the base like point-fixed glass can. Yes - finishes are coordinated across both materials: brushed nickel, matte black and custom colors on aluminum and stainless, so an aluminum base channel under a stainless clamp-and-rail system reads as one system.
