Choose it when the panel is oversized or exposed: panels over about 1 m wide, balustrades at high wind locations, or where the engineer's spec asks for a heavier clamp section. The heavier body resists flexing under load at the panel edge, so the glass stays rigid in the jaws. On a standard small infill panel it is overkill - the 575 standard clamp carries that fine.

The zinc parts are die-cast components of the clamp mechanism or the gasket carriers - zinc die-casting lets us machine the grip geometry accurately and keeps cost down on the non-structural parts. The structural body and fasteners are stainless. For fully marine environments we can supply the all-316 version so no zinc part is exposed to salt.

Yes, for the right reasons: 316's molybdenum content resists the chloride pitting that 304 shows where salt water or pool chemicals contact the clamp. The jaw area, screw heads and gasket joints are where moisture sits longest, and that is where the grade difference shows. Indoor use does not need 316 - save the money. Coastal balconies and pool areas should spec it.

The heavy-duty jaws handle the thicker tempered and laminated panels used in larger balustrades - typically 12-19 mm - with gaskets matched to the exact thickness. Panel height and width are what decide whether heavy-duty is needed at all; send the panel dimensions and we confirm the clamp size and count. The gasket set is verified on a sample before the full order.

Yes - in balustrade systems the top clamp often doubles as the rail bracket, holding both the glass edge and the handrail tube. The heavy-duty body is drilled for the rail clamp so the top rail sits on the same fixing line as the panel. If your handrail is post-supported instead, the clamp only grips the glass.

The clamp base bolts to a post or a floor/wall bracket with stainless fasteners - the same concept as the standard clamp, but with a larger bolt pattern and higher torque spec.
